Physical Security with Redundancy at the Edge: A Typical Application
Physical security increasingly uses Ethernet and Power over Ethernet (PoE) for devices such as cameras, access control badge readers, and VOIP phones. Where these physical security devices are deployed outdoors and in harsh environments, small hardened Ethernet switches with PoE are used at the edge of the network.
For high availability, redundant upstream connections into the network are desired, enabling the PoE-powered physical security devices to maintain operation even when there is a fault in the upstream network. The Magnum PESD42P Dual-Homing Edge Switch uniquely fills this requirement.
