We are currently seeking an experienced software professional with strong experience in layer 2 and layer 3 protocols, as well as in embedded system design.  At Garrettcom we are focused on designing highly resilient software, so talent in designing for high availability is also key.  This position will report to the VP of Engineering and have a BS degree (MS preferred), and minimum of 5+ years professional experience related to Ethernet L2, and L3 networking technologies. 

Position Responsibilities:

• Responsible for architecture, development and test of software for new Garretcom L2/L3 networking products.
• Responsible for design, development and test of new features and functions to enhance our existing embedded application, Garrettcom’s MNS.
• Provide leadership in interacting with other software/hardware/test developers to create and execute plans as well as resolve technical problems.
• Work with VP of Engineering and Product Planning to create SW roadmap and development strategies.  

Primary Qualifications:

• BS degree (MS preferred) and 5+ years embedded SW / L2 / L3 experience.  
• Detailed understanding of L2/L3 switching & routing, Ethernet, Bridging/Spanning Tree, Rapid Spanning Tree (RSTP) 802.1w
• Solid knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP/IP, and experience with IGMPv1/v2/v3, RIP, OSPF, BGP, and VLAN functionality
• Experience with management functions such as SNMP, performance monitoring, RADIUS, TACACS, CLI development, internal database design a plus.
• Takes an “architecture first” approach, with an emphasis on getting the design right up front.  Uses solid SW design practices.  Understands how to design for high reliability.
• Solid embedded systems / real time OS experience and a strong knack in embedded debugging and problem resolution.
• Self starting attitude, solid team player.  Willing to provide leadership to move programs or issues forward, and to mentor junior developers.
• Comfortable with working with teams across multiple geographies.
