If you enjoy testing layer 2 and layer 3 functions and protocols and have an organized, scientific, professional approach to testing new products, discovering defects, and working with the rest of the development team to find solutions to problems encountered, then GarrettCom’s need for a Product Test Engineer could be the job for you. The successful candidate will report to the VP of Engineering and have a BS, 5+ years direct software-testing experience related to Ethernet technology.
Position Responsibilities:
- Responsible for conformance, system, functional and integration testing of L2 and L3 Ethernet switching and routing systems.
- Act as a highly interactive member of the team and interact with software/hardware developers to work through test plans and resolve problems.
- Develop test strategies, test plans, and test networks to verify standards compatibility, functionality, interoperability, conformance, regression and systems-level readiness for customer implementation.
- Evaluate/develop test tools and help develop test automation tools, scripts, procedures and technologies.
Primary Qualifications:
- BS and 5+ years direct software-testing experiences.
- Testing/developing new products in LAN networking, experience with WAN a plus.
- Detailed understanding of L2/L3 switching, Ethernet, Bridging/Spanning Tree, Rapid Spanning Tree (RSTP) 802.1w, VLAN
- Solid knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP/IP, and experience in testing IGMPv1/v2/v3, RIP, OSPF, BGP, and VLAN functionality
- Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Unix/Linux and Windows experience.
- Experienced with traffic generation / capture tools (IXIA , Spirent, Packetgen, Ethereal).
- Tools development and automation experience: Tcl/Tk, scripting.
- Experience with testing Ethernet 10/100/1000 and 10G experience a plus.
- Knowledge of Ethernet switching and associated technologies highly desirable.
- Prior experience as a SW developer highly desirable.
